Material Handler
Description:
Load, unload and move materials at plant and yard.  Ensures adequate inventory of materials and products in accordance with production needs. Assists in the coordination and management of inventory counts.

Minimum requirements:  High School diploma or Equivalent. Certification or Vocational training preferred.  2-5 years of manufacturing experience.   Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Reliable, responsible, dependable, and able to fulfill obligations.  Quality written and oral communication.  Able to work with others and independently.  Problem solving.  Decision making.  Job task planning and organizing.  Significant use of memory.  Find necessary information, Continuous learning. Must pass company performance tests to meet certification standards of professional and technical associations.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform this job successfully.  While performing the duties pertaining to this position, the incumbent is regularly required to stand for long periods of time.  Strength and stamina sufficient to maintain a rigorous work schedule, requiring physical exertion and heavy lifting (5lb upto 75 lb).  Perform physical activities that require moving the whole body, such as in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also require considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials.  Using hands and arms in installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials, or in manipulating things.  The ability to use one's abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing.  The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for staging work orders for the production floor in advance of production schedules.  Responsible for researching and resolving parts and component shortages or defective material.  Serves as a “runner” for the production floor to ensure limited down-time and efficiency of the production cell.  Transports materials from designated area to/from production floor using a forklift in support of manufacturing needs. Materials transported may include raw materials, components, packaging materials, finished goods and/or scrap.  Prepares outgoing materials using a variety of methods including, but not limited to, scanning, labelling, wrapping.  Completes required paperwork to accompany outgoing materials such as Intercompany Bills of Lading.  Assists with inventory control, including cycle counts, and researches and solves inventory discrepancies Loads and unloads materials to and from designated storage areas, such as racks and shelves, or vehicles, such as trucks.  Receive materials and verify materials against invoices to ensure the accuracy of the delivery.  Count or weigh parts to check quantity accuracy.  Contact the vendor when shipment is inaccurate to rectify the discrepancy.  Transports receptacles to and from designated areas, by hand or using dollies, handtrucks, and wheelbarrows.  Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination, using crane or hoist.  Directs spouts and positions receptacles, such as bins, carts, and containers, to receive loads.  Stacks or piles materials, such as lumber, boards, or pallets.  Shovels materials into containers.  Bundles and bands material using banding machines.  Reads work orders or receives and listens to oral instructions to determine work assignment.  Sorts and stores items according to specifications.  Installs protective devices, such as bracing, padding or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.  Cleans work area, using brooms, rags, and cleaning compounds.  Attaches identifying tags or marks information on containers.  Records number of units handled and moved, using daily production sheet or work tickets.  Adjusts or replaces equipment parts, such as rollers, belts, plugs and caps, using hand tools.  Assembles product containers and crates, using hand tools and precut lumber.  Performs other duties as assigned.
