The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently and occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires prolonged sitting and driving. Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
Education and Experience
Must be at least 22 years of age and possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License. Must be physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle as demonstrated by a current medical examiner’s certificate. Must not use any drugs or substances that would interfere with the ability to drive safely. Must have an excellent driving record and satisfactory work history along with no felony conviction or misdemeanor drug convictions.
Essential duties and Responsibilities
Drive truck(s) with capacities greater than 26,000 GVW, including truck-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products, or other materials. Performs work required in a timely manner and maintain adequate production in order to meet service schedules. Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods. Check vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Cleans and inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure that vehicle(s) are in proper working condition. Keep vehicle and trailer in clean condition. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles. Report any delays immediately to their supervisor. Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures. Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to the supervisor. Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations. Obtain signatures for delivered goods when required. Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned. Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers. Read bills of lading to determine assignment details. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles. Maintains contact with supervisor to receive instructions. Must be able to work in severe weather conditions; both heat and cold. Must be a self starter and capable of working independently without constant supervision. Must perform all duties in accordance with Nello Corporations policies and procedures, and comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ensure secure and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). Understands and carries out instructions given orally and in writing.
